Bring your craft. The pipeline has opinions.

Second Unit takes on contract editors, motion designers and generalists. Paid, remote, project-based. There is no jobs page here because there are no jobs, and there is no benefits grid because contractors do not get one.

What this is

The studio runs a small permanent core and a wider bench. When a project needs a second editor, a 3D pass, a sound mix or someone who can take an angle and finish ten cuts of it properly, the bench gets asked first.

Time zones are a feature rather than a compromise. An angle briefed at 6pm in London should have something to look at by 9am, and that only works if the bench is spread across the map. If you are somewhere other than Europe, that is a reason to get in touch, not a complication.

Work is offered per project, so a quiet month is not a verdict on your reel. What it does mean is that nobody here will pretend a pipeline of occasional freelance work is a career plan.

What the work is like

You get a brief and a system

Templates, grade, type, sound and a reference cut come with the job. The system exists so a batch matches. It is not there to have an argument with you about taste, and the parts that are yours to decide are marked.

Delivery means finished

Graded, mixed, correctly specced per placement, named to the convention. Not a project file with a note attached. Anything that needs a second pass to be usable has not been delivered.

Volume is normal here

A batch is usually ten cuts of one angle. If precision repeated ten times does not appeal, this will not be enjoyable work, and that is worth knowing before either of us spends a week finding out.

The clock is short and it is real

Every angle in flight moves every working day. Holding that up is most of what you are being paid for, and it is why work is offered to people who answer messages.

Rates are agreed before anything starts

Per project, quoted up front, paid on delivery. No test pieces made for free, no spec rounds, no unpaid pitching.

Putting yourself forward

Send a reel or three links to work you finished yourself, the tools you actually work in, your time zone and your day rate to [email protected]. No form, no cover letter, no portfolio PDF.

Say which parts of the work were yours. Precision about that counts for more here than the size of the logo attached to it.

The bench is short, and every reel sent to it gets watched.
